Squadron Life - The History of 148 Squadron

Based on Racecommon Road in Barnsley 148 Squadron has been developing the youth of Barnsley for over 60 years. Formed from the Air Defence Cadet Corps (ADCC) on 5th February 1941 Barnsley Squadron is one of the oldest Squadrons in the Air Trianing Corps and even has it's orignal ADCC banner.

Since it's formation in 1941 Barnsley Squadron has been training young men and women the skills and qualities to suceed in life. These skills not only include the ability to organise and plan effectively but also to lead. This is evident with the staff at 148 as the current Officer Commanding and uniformed SNCO's are all ex-cadets from the Squadron.

We also boast the proud fact that two Wing Commanders (including the current serving Wg Cdr for South and West Yorkshire Wing) were cadets on the Squadron and progessed through the ranks as cadets and staff to become influential people with regards to the policies and direction of the Air Cadet Organisation.
