148 (Barnsley) Squadron Staff

Barnsley Squadron has various staff members who undertake different roles to ensure the cadets receive access to the opportunities available as a member of the Air Cadet Organisation.

Commanding Officer

Flight Lieutenant Richard Parker is the current Commanding Officer of Barnsley Squadron. Richard joined the Squadron as a cadet in the early nineties and progressed through the cadet ranks to the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer. Towards the end of his time as a cadet Richard moved Squadrons to one closer to where he was studying at University

After University Richard began working for DARA at RAF St Athan where he worked on the maintenance and servicing of aircraft currently in service with the Royal Air Force.

In 2004 Richard returned to Barnsley and was offered command of 148 Squadron which he accepted and runs with the support of the Adult NCO team and Civillian Instructors.

Adult Non-Commissioned Officers

In support of Flt Lt Parker are four uniformed members of staff of various ranks. Their main role is to ensure the standards of dress and discipline are maintained on Squadron as well as filling posts such as training officer and suppy officer.

Warrant Officer Peter Cartwright has been a member of 148 Squadron for over 25 years. Again Peter joined the Squadron as a cadet and rose to the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer. When he aged out at 22 Peter was a Civillian Instructor for a brief period of time before going back into uniform as an Adult Warrant Officer.

Warrant Officer Andrew Kaye joined the Squadron in 1993 as a cadet at 13 and progressed to the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer. Again as with previous members of staff he moved onto staff and became an Adult Warrant Officer at the age of 22. WO Kaye's main responsibilities are to ensure the Squadron has a varied and exciting training programme.

Two Adult Sergeants, Adam Sutcliffe and Gary Robinson support both the Commanding Officer and the Warrant Officers in the running of the Squadron. Sgt Sutcliffe's mian roles are to make sure the cadet's are fully aware of the opportunities for flying and gliding and also ensuring the stores are stocked. Sgt Robinson's jobs are to organise sports for the Squadron and ensure the canteen is stocked and being run correctly by the cadet NCO's

Civillian Instructors

Probably the most important members of any Squadron are the Civillian Instructors for without these people the Air Cadet Organisation would struggle to function. Barnsley Squadron is lucky to have Instructors from many walks of life who bring unique skills to the subjects they teach to the cadets.
