BTECAs well as providing life skills and the opportunity to take part in exciting and varied activities the Air Training Corps also supports providing qualifications based on the activities undertaken by cadets and staff. Supported by the Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation the Air Training Corps offers cadets the opportunities to take part in BTEC’s and receive recognised vocational qualifications. CVQO is a registered charity and helps cadets and staff from the Combined Cadet Force, Army Cadet’s, Sea Cadets and Air Training Corps to achieve qualifications that show employers and educational bodies the wide range of skills that the cadets and staff learn in the ATC. BTEC – Public Services The first of two BTEC’s currently available to Air Cadets and is equivalent to 4 GCSE’s at A*-C level. This BTEC focuses on leadership, teamwork, solving problems, communications and fitness. The syllabus is designed to improve life skills and cadets learn professional CV preparation and interview techniques. Cadets also learn about First Aid, Adventure Training, health and nutrition. BTEC - Music If you have an interest in music CVQO also offers the Air Cadets and other 3 cadet forces the opportunity to undertake a BTEC in music. This again is equivalent to 4 GCSE’s at A*-C level. This BTEC concentrates on developing a basic understanding of music as a profession and combines practical elements with technical skills. Upon completion, cadets will show and understanding of what is required in doing a performance including solo and ensemble. You will also learn how to organise, market, programme and publicise a music event. For this BTEC you are expected to be able to play a musical instrument prior to registration but you do not have to be able to read music. The Costs and Commitment At this point you’re probably wondering what the cost to register for a BTEC is. Well as a cadet you will be able to undertake a BTEC for free!! To enrol you must be 16 and be willing to complete the course syllabus which includes supervised adventure training and occasional weekend training sessions. All work you undertake for your BTEC is assessed by BTEC. If you are interested in signing up for a BTEC ask at your local Squadron. |
